Hey boys, I haven't seen you two in forever and I still got mad love, but I don't think I've ever given my two cents about mushroom blading (not that you want or need it, but I want to voice my opinion bluntly and not just kiss your ass because I know you personally)...Ok, here goes...
I remember going to POP contests years ago and Todd would be doing the biggest gaps in the park, skating so fast and in control, it was awesome. And Joey doing all these spinny, twirly, funky tricks that I had never seen a rollerblader do before, it was great. You two almost had the polar opposite of skate styles. It seems that after his surgery Todd adopted this mushroom style and I think we see a good bit of it in 'Better than Baseball'. When I heard you guys were gonna do a whole movie about this type of skating (Mushroom blading Vol.1) I was really interested to see how you were gonna make a whole video about it because near the end of 'Better than Baseball' the maneuvers were getting a bit repetitive. After watching MBV1 I remember thinking to myself, haha ok funny at first boys but nobody needs to see you guys doing the same tricks over and over and over again on the tiniest of obstacles.
Please realize I only felt compelled to write you an honest letter like this because too many people who know you are just kissing your ass to your face and saying the opposite behind your back. I thought you should know what some people are too afraid to tell you. Todd used to be one of the best stunt skaters in Canada and now I see him reduced to flat parking lots and curb stalls. I'm glad you guys are happy, but you've kind of exhausted an idea and I think it's time to move on as far a film series goes. Mushroom Blading 2 almost broke my heart, not only because you were making another entire video based around the same combination of tricks, but because the parts like the forced laughter and perv shots of 12 year old girls were just untasteful and unnecessary. I'm not even gonna comment on MB3&4 because I see what you guys are doing, and it's just not for me. I know rollerblading is fun for you guys, but why would ANYONE skate if it wasn't? For me, skating is about skating, not filming. I find I have the best times on my skates when the camera stays at home. As far as being creative and original, Ok you did that with the first movie, but since then, this mushroom skating has shrunk your world of what rollerblading could be for you.
Much love, and I hope you guys have a great new year. I hope to make it to the west coast in 2011 and roll with Canada's finest. One love boys, KT
